I write this entry to show not only the US has problems regarding how wolves are treated. So let me write about the sad fate of a wolf again who had to die out of ignorance.

The wolf escaped last Saturday from a zoo in southern Hungary, the fact itself raises some questions. Wolves are not able to well adapt to zoo conditions but they are still kept captive in eastern Europe. Quite obviously measures were not taken to prevent the wolf from escaping and zoo director Miklos Szatyor is liable to that.

When zoo staff noticed the wolf is missing they immediately reported it to local authorities and the nearby forest region was closed so no one were allowed to enter. It must be noted as many of the director's supporters say the animal had to be killed so it won't eat children when it goes hungry. (This is not a serious argument, is it?)

Also it is not know why the wolf was shot with killer gun when staff was nearby, ready to stupefy him, then track him down and getting him back to the zoo. While it's said the animal was acting aggressively, local reports say he'd already turned back and attempted to run away from the men when he was shot at the back.

The last point is, why the staff did not request help from wolf expert Zoltan Horkai who is well-know in the region and whose experience had already saved many wolves' life.

The questions are cumulating as much as the signatures for the petition - director Miklos Szatyor must resign as the manager of the Zoo of Pécs, Hungary. As more proof is gathered, it gains evidence this sad case was not self-defence but mere murder and the director should be banned from ever dealing with animals.

Petition is here:

I was surprised that information spreads so fast. :)

I'm Hungarian and I've watched several videos and articles about these arguments. Our wolf experts (e.g. the ones in the Bear Farm of Veresegyház) are trying hard to make people accept wolves and get to know them better, as some of them are returning to Hungary these days. (I also entered the cage of those wolves in the Bear Farm. Check out my gallery!)
This case did such a harm for the Predator Program, and I'm also sorry for the wolf, but if it had wounded/killed someone or something then the effect of it would have been a lot worse. We may not know if he/she was healthy.
